Stuhlmuller Vineyards
|
|
Stuhlmuller Vineyards is tucked into a unique river bench and hillside location in the southwestern edge of the Alexander Valley where three of Northern Sonoma County's top appellations come together, virtually a stone's throw from Chalk Hill and the Russian River Valley. Since 1982 Stuhlmuller Vineyards has been selling grapes to a number of area wineries.(Click to see) In the mid-90's Fritz Stuhlmuller decided to put the family's name on a label. Working with winemaker Kerry Damskey they produced small lots of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon from 150-acres of estate vineyard. The cool climate and varied soils and exposures create Chardonnay with classic Alexander Valley tropical characteristics plus crisp citrus/apple notes and a distinctive mineral touch. The Cabernet Sauvignon adds hints of sage and bay leaf to the region's rich cherry, black fruit and cocoa. In 2000 Stuhlmuller Vineyards built a new winery on the property, sized precisely to handle the small amounts of world-class, estate fruit the Stuhlmullers select to create their wines. Guided by gifted winemaker Leo Hansen (and consulting winemaker Kerry Damskey), Stuhlmuller Vineyards handcrafts, small-lot wines that embody a rich, expressive charm, and a distinctive sense of place.

Stuhlmuller Estate Cabernet
Leggy and intensely dark in the glass, our 2001 Alexander Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon displays aromas of cedar, spice, black fruits and a hint of earth. On the palate, the wine’s ripe, integrated tannins, along with great fruit concentration are a hallmark of the excellent vintage. For the finish, blackberry, cassis, and black cherry flavors carry through.

Stuhlmuller Estate Chardonnay
The 2003 Chardonnay is light and golden straw-like in color, with a faint green hue. It shows spiced pear, ginger, and toasted almond on the nose. Bright, lively acidity accentuates the vineyard’s signature minerality and balances the wine’s rich, full-bodied texture. The integrated oak notes add a spicy characteristic.

Stuhlmuller Estate Zinfandel
The 2002 Stuhlmuller Alexander Estate Zinfandel is the color of black cherries and plums. An explosion of zesty blackberry and sweet oak aromas jump from the glass to your nose. In the mouth, ripe berry and briar flavors are the result of a perfectly timed harvest, with grapes picked at optimum maturity levels. With its forward fruit flavors, soft tannins and lingering finish this wine is a stunning example of the beauty and approachability of Zinfandels from this area.
