Thirty five years ago, Don Smith retired from the construction industry and purchased the farm, where he was raised, from his parents Arthur and Agnes Smith. He loved the Finger Lakes Area of New York state and worked hard to establish a vineyard.
In 1981 the property was passed on to his family and we have carefully nurtured the vines, added new popular varieties and have supplied many wineries in the eastern states with fine grapes and wine.

Potato Barn Red
This juicy blend of cabernet franc and merlot boasts a deep ruby color with rich, smoky aromas of blackberry, chocolate, spice and cedar. With its flirtatious bouquet and smooth palate bursting with flavors of wild cherries, this wine is intended for immediate enjoyment, but will continue to gain complexity over time.
|
Potato Barn Rosé
This first release of Potato Barn Rosé was made using the traditional saignée (bleeding) method from cabernet franc and merlot, the two red grape varieties that we feel are best suited to the North Fork’s well-draining, sandy-loam soils and climate moderating waters. With its spectacular pink, salmon color, this wine has beautiful aromas of strawberries, sugar cherries and spice. In the mouth, the rosé is perfectly dry with no residual sugar and a mouth-watering crisp acidity.
|
Potato Barn White
Potato Barn White is a blend of chardonnay and pinot blanc, the two white grape varieties that we feel are best suited to the North Fork’s terroir. This refreshing wine is clean and crisp with a wonderful nose of ripe pear, peach and fresh apricot. The fruit is laced with a light mineral component that dances on the palate. It is intriguing enough to hold the attention of connoisseurs and accessible enough to be enjoyed by all.

Schneider Cabernet Franc
This luscious cabernet franc has enticing aromas of spice, ripe berries, dried herbs and smoky cedar. On the palate, it has delicious flavors of sweet blueberries and ripe red currants that are finely balanced by a soft silky texture. This alluring wine is approachable now, but has enough structure to last another seven to ten years.
|
Schneider Chardonnay
This chardonnay is perhaps one of our best to date. Forty-eight percent of this wine was barrel fermented and aged in French oak. The other fifty-two percent was fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, and did not go through malolactic fermentation. The result is an incredibly well-balanced and complex wine with a creamy, supple texture and bright finish.
|
Schneider Merlot
This saturated, deep, ruby/purple-colored 1998 is a big, rich, smoky Merlot loaded with ripe fruit aromas of mixed berry jam, plum, currants and black olives. Layers of complex blackberry compote and an almost solvent character are followed by a sweet mid-palate balanced by round tannins. This wine possesses all the attributes for long-term aging.
