Oak Cliff Brewing

Our story doesn’t begin with a dream to build a brewery. It begins in the 50’s, with a few families that started a community church in south Oak Cliff, and a handful of kids that sprouted out of that experience in the 70’s.
I’m a third-generation Oak Cliff native. My grandfather founded a small church near the corner of Hampton and Illinois, a pretty happening place at the time. El Fenix, Polar Bear Ice Cream, and the old Austin’s Barbeque were all within one block, and I still remember how, as a kid, I’d pass by the Astro Drive-in every day, trying to sneak a peek of the big screen. After college, I moved back to an Oak Cliff that had begun to change. It was a time of transition – the old community spots were closing down, and the heady revitalization of Bishop Arts and resurgence of interest in Oak Cliff had yet to gather momentum. Around that time, I met my lovely wife, another Oak Cliff native. We were married at Kessler Park United Methodist Church in the late 90’s and went off to start our family.
Through various transitions, no matter where we found ourselves living, we never strayed far from our Oak Cliff roots. With the growing development around Bishop Arts, we found ourselves crossing the Trinity less and less often… except when it came to craft breweries. So, in 2015, after about six years of brewing as a hobby, I got together with a few of those kids from the old church, and we decided to launch this brewery. There was never a question of what it would be called, or where it would go. It was always meant to be Oak Cliff Brewing Co.
