Summers Estate Wines

Summers Estate Wines The Summers family makes their home and work in Calistoga, running this small family-style winery. Our lifestyle is about enjoying life, from living in a small town and being involved in community activities, to growing grapes and making premium quality wine to relaxing when the opportunity presents itself. Favorite times are spent visiting with family and friends, playing bocce ball and dining al fresco among the vineyards. Come by the winery to taste what the experts rave about. The tasting room is open 7 days a week, 10:30-4:30. 2004 marks the 7-year anniversary that our tasting room has been open on Tubbs Lane. The replanting of the vineyards at Summers Winery / Villa Andriana Vineyard is complete, and our first Cabernet Sauvignon is in the bottle and it is richer and more complex than we dreamed. This all started when Jim Summers purchased a 28-acre vineyard in Knights Valley in 1987. At that time it was mostly Merlot grapes with some Muscat Canelli. The first production of Summers Ranch Merlot was the 1992 vintage, and we increased the yield to reach a maximum of 2000 cases. In 1996 we expanded our vineyard holdings to include 25 acres at the corner of Highway 128 and Tubbs Lane. This Napa Valley property carries the name Summers Winery, with the vineyard designation of Villa Andriana Vineyard, named after our daughter. The property has been completely transformed to recognize its full potential. With a winery/tasting room, entertainment center, bocce ball court, picnic area and 22+ acres of vines (Zinfandel, Charbono, and Cabernet Sauvignon) we think it a perfect balance of pleasure and productivity.

Directions
From The Bay Bridge: Take Interstate 80 to Highway 29. You have two really fun choices! You can either drive up Napa Valley on Highway 29 and drive through a few very quaint towns. Or, you can take Highway 29 to Trancas in Napa. Drive east to the Silverado Trail (this is the route that we like best, the views and the peacefulness). Turn left onto Silverado Trail drive up Valley 18 miles to Calistoga; continue on Silverado Trail about 2 miles to Tubbs Lane. Turn left onto Tubbs Lane and look for a big yellow barn and winery. You’ll see our gates on the right at 1171 Tubbs Lane. From The San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge: Take Highway 101 north approximately 55 miles to the River Road/Guerneville exit (north of Santa Rosa). After exiting, turn right onto Mark West Springs Road. Mark West Springs Road becomes Porter Creek Road after aproximately 10 miles. Turn left onto Petrified Forest Rd. at 4.66 miles.   Andriana's Cuvee
Summers Andriana's Cuvee is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes procured from three select vineyards in the northern Napa Valley, including Summers own Villa Andriana Vineyard. Unique microclimates of the vineyards combine to yield a deep and complex Cabernet that is a signature of its extraordinary terroir. Barrel aging and judicious use of new oak make this a wine that is enjoyable young. Firm tannins make for wine worthy of cellaring. Serve with roast chicken, London Broil or simply indulge with dark chocolates.
  Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
Summers Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is grown on our Estate Villa Andriana vineyard grown in deep loamy, volcanic soils. This vintage represents true Cabernet Sauvignon character. Our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in French oak barrels for 21 months resulting in medium to dark ruby colored wine and sweet French vanilla notes. Summers vineyard management and wine style are realized in this signature Cabernet Sauvignon exhibiting rich black cherry and cassis flavors to the wonderful mid-palate, excellent texture and tannic structure.
  Estate Charbono
Allegedly, Italian immigrants brought Charbono vines here in the late 1800s thinking they were Barbera. It was bottled as Barbera by Inglenook Winery and even won several medals as Barbera. Eventually, DNA testing done by Professor Carole Meredith of UC Davis proved that Charbono is the French vareity Corbeau, aka Charbonneau. Charbono wine is only produced in California, adding to its exclusive appeal. Now there are only 80 acres of Charbono planted in California, half of which are in Calistoga. Calistoga is a sweet spot for Charbono, and most of the older vineyards are there. Today only 16 wineries produce Charbono; with Summers Estate Wines holding the title of Charbono King for producing the largest amount of this special wine annually - about 2000 cases.
  Estate Zinfandel
Ignacio’s 2006 Estate Zinfandel is grown and produced on the Villa Andriana Vineyard which consistently produces high quality, premium Zinfandel wine. Our 40 year old Zinfandel vines are stressed by the hot microclimate of Northern Calistoga resulting in exquisite, dark, rich and full-bodied Zinfandel fruit. The approach is fruit forward, with spicy oak undertones, ideal tannins and a lingering, lush berry, vanilla finish.
  LeNude Chardonnay
Our 2007 LeNude Chardonnay is produced from grapes grown in Alexander Valley bordered by Russian River and Chalk Hill Appellations. This area has unique river benchland soils, which produce some of California’s most distinctive Chardonnays. This unoaked Chardonnay was fermented and aged sur lie for eight months in Stainless Steel Tank. The wine possesses a pale straw color, offering aromas of young pineapple, lemongrass, and honeysuckle in the bouquet. On the palate, this Chardonnay delivers flavors of fresh tropical fruit and yellow flowers, refreshing acidity, and it concludes with a crisp lively finish.
  Merlot - Knights Valley Reserve
Summers Ranch lies at the base of Mt. St. Helena in Knights Valley, situated between the Napa and Alexander Valleys. For the past 20 years this ranch has consistently produced award winning Merlot wines. This 2006 vintage represents an elegant example of the best Knights Valley vineyard blocks.
  Muscat Canelli
Summers 2007 Muscat Canelli was picked at 29.5 brix, perfect ripeness for dessert wines. It is delightfully refreshing and fruity, with floral aromas of ripe peaches and apricots - an extraordinary combination of sweetness and crisp balance. This wine pairs well with spicy Thai meals or as an accompaniment to dessert.
