After purchasing the vineyard in 1994, we decided that we would convert the old redwood, board and batten barn that had been on the property since the prohibition era into our future winery. In 1997 we began the meticulous process of preserving and restoring this Napa Valley landmark. The interior of the existing barn was converted into our hospitality center. Immediately behind the barn we constructed the underground barrel room and wine library, and above that the modern, gravity feed cellar. Inland cedar was used throughout the facility to preserve the historic quality of the building, while newly installed windows and cathedral ceilings provide a warm and comfortable setting for tasting. We hope that our wines reflect the unique characteristics of each vintage and of the Rutherford growing district. It begins in the vineyard---as we use only a small percentage of the grapes grown on our estate, the fruit that is perfect to the eye and loaded with flavor. We hire harvest crews chosen for their selective picking techniques, and then we hand sort to insure we are using nothing but the finest fruit. Using gentle, gravity-fed systems in the winery, a judicious use of oak barrel aging in the finest French oak, and daily attention to the wines during aging, we produce the finest wines possible in small, select quantities. Our total production is just 4,200 cases annually, and all of our wines are 100% estate grown and bottled.

Sawyer Cellars Bradford Meritage
Layered with aromas of currant and black cherry, additional aromas of cherry and oak are present on the nose. True to the celebrated Rutherford appellation, on the palate this wine exhibits elegant, well-balanced Bordeaux fruit with deep, black cherry flavors, white pepper and mocha with a long, satin finish. This wine would be the perfect accompaniment to a festive dinner today, or will age beautifully for the next ten to twelve years.

Sawyer Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon embodies all the characteristics of a fine Rutherford grown Cabernet Sauvignon. The intense, opulent color leads way to a radiant nose filled with blackberry, dark cherry, nutmeg and vanilla. On the palate, the dense blackberry is accompanied by luscious extracts of cocoa, black cherry, with hints of cedar box and dusty tannins on the finish. The round and velvety texture provides a long-lingering, smooth finish that is enjoyable now, and will continue to develop for the next twelve to fifteen years.

Sawyer Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon displays all the characteristics of a fine Rutherford grown Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is complex, filled with bing cherry, currant and spice aromas. On the palate, the dense cherry is accompanied by hints of cinnamon, mocha and cedar, with the characteristic and well integrated Rutherford dust tannins on the finish. This wine will age beautifully for an additional eight to ten years.

Sawyer Cellars Merlot
Our 2002 Merlot is brawny, displaying complex layers of bright cherry, plum, strawberry jam and spice flavors on the nose. On the palate, additional bright cherry and red fruit flavors are complemented by a hint of oak and spice to provide an elegant, silky finish with firm but well integrated tannins. Twenty-one months of barrel aging in the finest French oak barrels complements the wealth of intricacies found in this thick and structured Merlot.

Sawyer Cellars Sauvignon Blanc
A rare Sauvignon Blanc produced from 100% Rutherford fruit, our 2005 estate Sauvignon Blanc shows floral and citrus notes on the nose. Sur lie barrel aged for five months in French Oak, this lively, crisp and full bodied Sauvignon Blanc reveals crisp green apple, lime, toasted almond and grassy flavors on the palate, followed by a clean, mineral finish.
