J.K. Carriere

J.K. Carriere Ours is focused winemaking of classically structured, ageable, high-acid, smooth-tannin Pinot noir. Nuance, movement and grace are the goal. Small production – 1300 cases for the 2002 vintage – allows owner/winemaker Jim Prosser to make the highest quality wine on a barrel-by-barrel basis. Established in 1999, the winery is nestled in a working hazelnut orchard in Yamhill County, Oregon. The winery's name is a combination of Jim's grandfathers' names and represents a covenant he holds with their integrity. A wasp features prominently on the label because it has twice nearly killed him. J.K. Carriere wines are available in wine shops, fine dining establishments and specialty markets in twelve states, as well as directly through the winery. The winery is open to the public for Thanksgiving and Memorial Day weekend open houses. Appointments and tours are available by request.

  Glass White Pinot Noir
The color? All shiny pink like a new penny. The nose? Lemon meringue and key lime parading before a hint of lily, nutmeg and yeast. The flavor? Meyer lemon, quince, tangerine and grapefruit zest. Reminiscent of a Chilean Pisco Sour with no perceptible sugar. The structure? Abundantly weighty and finely textured with racy acidity that remains focused on the sustained and slightly spritzy lemon curd finish.
  Provocateur Pinot Noir
Vibrant garnet in color, this wine throws a nose of spice, earth, moist tobacco and plum. It’s got a huge cherry-is-as-cherry-does fruit attack leading to a supple palate of root beer, ginger, chocolate and soy. Pure Pinot noir, very balanced, perhaps sultry, and of medium-plus length, it finishes with a grilled-toast tailout and a slight, nice-to-let-it-linger grip.
  Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
The wine is stunning, a dark purple-red. Rich aromatics of cherry intertwine with graham and resin. It's a massive dark red fruit attack with hints of fresh currant, rose petal, cranberry, crimson spice, passion fruit and creme brule. Exhibiting lovely movement on the palate, the wine is luscious, balanced, long and peristent. We strive for power and grace; in this wine it's delivered.
  Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
A vibrant deep purple-red with absolute clarity. It gives enticing aromatics of fresh crushed raspberries, cedar resin and pencils. The smooth structure yields a mouthful of juicy red fruit layered dominantly over a hint of smoky earth. The finish is bottomless, slightly caramelized and persistent.
