Roots Wine Company was established in 2002 by Chris and Hilary Berg. The 6.5-acre estate vineyard was planted in 1999 and 2000. Located outside of Yamhill, Roots Vineyard is sustainably farmed and contains rich Willakenzie-based sandy, silty loam. It is planted mostly to Pinot Noir (Dijon clones 777, 113, 114 and 115) with a few rows of Pinot Gris. Outside fruit contracts allow Roots Wine Company to offer a variety of wines, including a number of other luscious single-vineyard Pinot Noirs (Leroy, Cancilla, Saffron Fields, Carlton Hill, Johnson, Fairsing), as well as Melon de Bourgogne (Deux Vert), both still and sparkling, Chardonnay, Riesling and Viognier. Other labels include: Racine (reserve Pinot) and Klee (second label made with first-rate fruit) and Cuvée Theo (methode Champenoise sparkling). Current annual production is approximately 4,000 cases and is distributed throughout Oregon, Washington, California, Wisconsin, Illinois, Kansas, Virginia and New York.
